It's the end of DE&I as we know it ... and we feel fine

Dear Friends,

As we continue in this new year, and as we reflect on another transformative year in 2023, firstly, we’re grateful to announce that Sweet Livity is closing its doors, and we have launched a new collective endeavor, the Dandelion Medicine Liberation (DML). For the past five years of our journey, we have been building towards a new mission. Our DML mission is clear: to empower and promote the social, economic, and political liberation of Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) social justice workers, irrespective of age, gender, sexuality, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion, economic, or other status.

We also find ourselves pondering a question that echoes in the corridors of many organizations: “Is DE&I Dead?” It’s a question that requires us to delve beyond the surface, to assess the pulse of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our workplaces and communities.

In the past, DE&I was a buzzword, a commitment on paper, a checkbox in the corporate agenda. But what happens when the initial fervor fades? Are we seeing genuine change, or has DE&I become a mere shadow in the backdrop of our organizational priorities?

Reframing the Narrative

Let’s face it; the road to true inclusivity is riddled with challenges. The initial excitement may have waned, but that doesn’t mean the mission is obsolete. Instead, it’s an opportunity to reflect, reassess, and redefine our commitment to building spaces that celebrate and advance diversity and ensure equity for all.

Evolving Perspectives

The landscape of DE&I is shifting. It’s not just about compliance; it’s about building cultures that thrive on differences. We’ve learned that authentic inclusion goes beyond policies; it’s a mindset, a daily practice that transforms workplaces into environments where everyone can flourish.

Celebrating Progress

While the journey may be ongoing, let’s take a moment to celebrate the progress we’ve made. Whether it’s fostering conversations, implementing new policies, or amplifying underrepresented voices, each step is a stride toward a more inclusive future.

Stay Tuned

In the coming months, we’ll be sharing insights, stories, and initiatives that challenge the status quo and propel us towards DEI as a reality and not just a goal. DE&I isn’t dead; it’s evolving, and together, we’re shaping its next chapter. Visit our website to learn more here. https://www.dmlcoop.com

Wishing you a restorative 2024 filled with positive transformations.

With gratitude,

from the entire Dandelion Medicine Liberation family
